Welcome to the technical blog series for IoT Professionals

The Internet of Things (IoT) – or even the Internet of Everything (IoX) – is a hot topic of the last years that just goes on forever. The general term „Internet of Things“ coins the opportunities of connecting physical objects (Things) with other physical or virtual things and systems via the Internet.

Beginning in 2000, the technology of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) brought the first hype around IoT. Mounted to a physical object (Thing), an RFID tag provides the opportunity to identify explicitly a Thing by an RFID scanner, bridging the gap between the physical and virtual world, for instance, applied to supply chains in logistics. 20 years later, technical trends like miniaturization of transistors, energy-efficient chips, and high-speed networks fed the hype of IoT, while pushing the frontier closer to everyday life based on topics like Smart Wearable, Smart Home, or Smart Factory.

On the following pages, we want to take you with us in the realm of expedition mountaineering all around the hot topic of the Internet of Things. To get a glimpse on the mountaineering equipment required, check out our overview map with different hikes to the top of the mountain. Or you put immediately on your mountaineering boots and jump to our expedition mountaineering. In either case, have fun, drop a comment, and watch your step!
